I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FASCINATED BY WILDLIFE AND NATURAL HISTORY.
FROM A YOUNG AGE, I WAS A MEMBER OF THE YOC (YOUNG ORNITHOLOGISTS CLUB) AND LATER THE RSPB, AND AM NOW PASSIONATE ABOUT BOTH WILDLIFE AND CONSERVATION. I RECALL VIVIDLY, THE MOMENT AS A YOUNG BOY, THAT I CUPPED MY HANDS TO HOLD A CLUTCH OF BLUE TITS, WHILST MY UNCLE RINGED THEM IN OUR GARDEN. FROM THAT MOMENT, I WAS HOOKED.
MY WORK LIFE HAS BEEN PRETTY ECLECTIC! I TRAINED AS A MUSICIAN AT THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC, BEFORE JOINING THE ROYAL AIR FORCE IN 2004. IN 2009 I LEFT THE RAF, HAVING MET MY WIFE AND MOVED TO SURREY. I STARTED WORKING IN THE CITY, WHERE I STILL WORK IN SENIOR MANAGEMENT FOR A LEADING TECHNOLOGY RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY.
MY PASSION FOR WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY WAS IGNITED BY A TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA AND I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK. SINCE THEN, I HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY FORTUNATE TO TRAVEL BACK TO AFRICA MULTIPLE TIMES, AS WELL AS EXTENSIVELY ACROSS EUROPE & TO MOST FAR FLUNG CORNERS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM.
I HAVE ALSO ENJOYED MEETING OTHER LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE, BOTH IN PERSON AND THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA AND HAVE MET SOME EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED PHOTOGRAPHERS TO COLLABORATE AND CAPTURE SOME PHENOMENAL WILDLIFE BOTH IN THE UK & OVERSEAS.
MY LIFELONG DREAM, HAS BEEN TO OWN A SMALLHOLDING OR PROPERTY IN THE RURAL COUNTRYSIDE, WHERE I CAN CREATE A WILDLIFE HAVEN, RUN WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS & HOST GUESTS TO EDUCATE THEM ON THE BEAUTY, DIVERSITY & FRAGILITY OF OUR WILDLIFE, WHILST GIVING BACK TO CONSERVATION BY REWILDING.
WHEN I AM NOT OUT WITH OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS OR WILDLIFE ENTHUSIASTS, I AM LIKELY OUT WALKING WITH MY WIFE TAMARA, EXPLORING OUR WONDERFUL COUNTRYSIDE!
WE LOVE EXPLORING THE UK TOGETHER & TRAVELLING IN OUR SELF BUILD CAMPERVAN ‘THE TRIPOD’ (BELOW).

MY GEAR
When I first started on my wildlife photography journey, I had a fairly modest setup.
My passion for wildlife photography started upon my return from a trip to South Africa on safari. A trip during which I was caught very short by the images that I was able to capture with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ100 ‘point and shoot’.
When I returned to the UK I decided to invest in my first DSLR and telephoto zoom, a Nikon D5600 with a Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens. This setup served me well, however as I started to take photography more seriously, I upgraded, to first a D500 and then the incredible Nikon D850 which I paired with the Nikon 200-500mm lens. My final Nikon setup was the D850 with the incredible Nikon 300mm f2.8, which I often paired with a 1.4TC.
In 2021, I decided to make the move from DSLR to mirrorless and from Nikon to Sony - I have never looked back and love my current setup, explained below.
